Dear Students and Postdoctoral Fellows:
The 13th International Summer School on Biocomplexity, Biodesign and Bioinnova: from Gene to System sponsored by the NSF and co-sponsored by the IEEE EMB Society, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of Houston, the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University and the Bogazici University will be held from June 15-21, 2014 Istanbul, Turkey.
The objective of the summer school is to train senior undergraduate, graduates in biological science engineering, bioengineering students in computational and mathematical sciences including the theory, implementations and applications of both emerging and current computational tools, modeling and signal processing methods in medicine, molecular biology, brain sciences, population biology and genomics. The summer school is an excellent learning, teaching and brain storming opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students. I believe that it is extremely important for students to personally meet with leaders in the field, while enjoying a pleasant location.
This year, we have several fellowships from the NSF for students to attend the summer school. The NSF funding will be mainly used to provide the fellowships to cover the summer school expenses of the recipients who are undergraduate and graduate students at US/ Canadian institutions. I STRONGLY encourage you to apply for the fellowship. The fellowships will be awarded based on the scientific credentials of the candidates including their academic standing, the relevance of their research (only applies to graduate students) their career goals and the financial necessity.
Prospective candidates should send along with their application, their CV's, a recommendation letter from their advisor or their department chair, a summary of their research (only applies to graduate students) and their career goals for evaluation to Prof. Akay at MAkay@uh.edu. The application deadline is March 9, 2014.
Women, minorities, students with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
Additional information will be added periodically.
